Better Angels: great book, but a bit dense. A lot of statistics, if I remember correctly.
No JW would ever read it. Too long.
Pinker should release a set of pastel-colored tracts.
came across this lecutre (or alternatively you can read the transcript) in a class from yale on moralities of everyday life:.

what sorrow awaits you!
for you say that it means nothing to swear by gods temple, but that it is binding to swear by the gold in the temple.
20when you swear by the altar, you are swearing by it and by everything on it.
Ultimately this is all hearsay and rumour.
Not for me, it isn't.
I know for a fact that at least one GB member is NEVER seen in service, and only makes an appearance at a meeting every three months or so.
to all congregations in the united states branch territory re: branch visit in november 2014 .
dear brothers: .
on february 11, 2014, the bethel family was excited to learn that a branch visit is sched- uled for the united states.
I dont understand. Is it 2 days 3 hours, each? Or 2 days 1.5 hours each? Or 1 day for 3 hours?
I suspect it will be something like the Annual Meeting: a three-hour long program Saturday morning that will be simulcast live to Ass Halls, followed by a series of rebroadcasts over the balance of the weekend.
these are things that were said or insinuated, i start with the first 15.
enjoy!!.
1. working for a corporation in the city makes you fall out of the truth.. 2. if you become inactive or leave jehovah you will make your whole family sad and ruin everything.. 3. all worldly people cheat.. 4. all worldly people curse.. 5.
Have had this out on my desk to watch for a couple weeks now. . .
My wife refuses to watch it. With what she does know (or suspect) with regards to TTATT, I think she thinks it will push her over the edge!

They are indeed laying it on thick in this, the 100-Year Anniversary of the Invisible Kingdom.
First the Annual Meeting w/"New" Bible; then the International Conventions this summer; "special" campaigns for "memorial season" (DUCK SEASON!!! WABBIT SEASON!!!!) and something during the summer, too; the super-duper building project in USNY; now this.
How long can they maintain the fog-and-mirrors/endless treadmill of activity before people get antsy?
PIXEL - thank you for posting this. My wife is always impressed I know the content of these letters before they are read!

hey babe, how about you and me doing a -.
generation overlap
You wouldn't mind if I slip this tract under your storm door? . . . . . .
See, now I think they're just trolling us.
I agree with APOGNOPHOS.
the rate of growth of publishers has dropped from an average 5.64% per annum over the 15 years prior to 1995, to 2.55% in the 15 years after 1995. had growth remained above 5%, the 4,950,344 witnesses in 1995 would have exceeded 11 million in 2010. instead, there were only 7 million in 2010 - a difference of 4 million people.
factors on conversion and retention, such as internet education, resulted in growth of 2 million instead of 6 million, just one third of that expected in 1995.. http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/statistics.php.
i read this and it got me thinking about how much the global population is rising by annually.
18,000 hours of reported time per convert, plus all the time and effort of printing material, producing websites and running meetings.
This makes sense only when you realize that the preaching work is mostly NOT about making converts or declaring god's kingdom, but about keeping people busy on a treadmill of activity - a classic cult move.. . .
recently attended a sad.. bethel speaker was gushing about the wt's embrace of new technology, in the part of his talk warning about "apostate" web sites.. a loose summary of his comments:.
"and the brothers at headquarters have made it very safe for you to go to our website.
in fact, the brothers talked to the folks at google, and they made a special arrangement so that when you type in 'j w period' into the google search engine, it automatically shows you the jw.org website.
Naahhhh. .. . They're not a cult. . .
i wanted to know what problems you have learned about dating in the "truth" acording to there policy.
i feel like you dont really know someone until you live with them.
also some put on a false personality until they get what they want i.e.
Oops!
I thought this was another 607/587 thread
Yes, there are big problems with both forms of dating in the Watchtower!
